cermin diri

Curriculum Vitae vs. Resume

The terms 'Curriculum Vitae' and 'resume' are generally interchangeable. However, few people know that they do differ in many ways. It is true that both are lists of the most relevant information of a person pertaining to job seeking. Both are used for the same purpose - i.e. seeking employment.

However, there are a few basic differences, i.e. while the Curriculum Vitae represents an in-depth and structured information about the professional experience and qualification of a person, the resume usually is the same thing in a very short form - hence, the name. The resume would usually represent a skeletal representation of what would otherwise be included in depth and detail in the Curriculum Vitae. This is why typically a CV would be two to three pages while the resume would not normally exceed one page.

The Curriculum Vitae is the most accepted form for job applications all over the world. You would find some basic variations in the order of presentation from country to country and sometimes from company to company. However, in terms of content, it basically remains the same.

The resume, on the other hand is the most accepted form for job applications in USA. Here, the Curriculum Vitae would be used exclusively for jobs in academics. A detailed Curriculum Vitae would also be demanded when you apply for government grants.

The Curriculum Vitae

The main features of the CV are outlined in brief below:

1. The Curriculum Vitae is a list of all your achievements until the date you are submitting it, presented in reverse chronological order (i.e. the latest achievements first)
2. The Curriculum Vitae is ideally two pages in length, though it can sometimes go up to three to five pages
3. The Curriculum Vitae would include everything that you have done and can be classified as work outside the home - whether paid or unpaid; hence, it is okay if the Curriculum Vitae contains voluntary and honorary positions and work done in such positions
4. The Curriculum Vitae structure is very systematic and is generally drawn in a specific order
5. The Curriculum Vitae is normally accompanied by a cover letter, which summarizes what it contains and points out the match of the applicant with the job
6. A Curriculum Vitae can be written in the following three styles: functional CV, targeted CV and performance CV

The Resume

The main features of the Resume are as under:

1. A resume is a precise and very brief document representing at-a-glance your key skills and main achievements
2. A resume should not be longer than one page, unless in rare exceptions
3. A resume would contain of only what is strictly relevant to the job applied and nothing else - it is more important here to have all the information contained within one page, that representing the information it in totality
4. The resume would highlight your skills and achievements above all other things
5. The resume is usually presented without a cover letter because the main reason you are submitting the resume, is fast processing; a cover letter would defeat the purpose
6. A resume usually can be written in three very different styles - (i) Chronological resume - whereby your skills and main achievements are listed by date starting with the most recent ones first, (ii) Functional resume - whereby your skills and experience are more highlighted than anything else and (iii) a combination of both - whereby both skill and achievements are presented hand-in-hand.

10 Inspiring Quotes for a Depressed Heart

Entry for this time I want to share something that I guess everyone need to face our daily~~ I remember one of my friend tell me "When you feel like there is no one standing there for you, He always with you."
Guys, let live our life with smile in our face. Here you can some quotes to help you thinking positively.

Begin Each Day Anew

"Have patience with all things, but chiefly have patience with yourself. Do not lose courage in considering your own imperfections but instantly set about remedying them -- every day begin the task anew."

Saint Francis de Sales

A Treasured Pearl

"A pearl is a beautiful thing that is produced by an injured life. It is the tear [that results] from the injury of the oyster. The treasure of our being in this world is also produced by an injured life. If we had not been wounded, if we had not been injured, then we will not produce the pearl."

women in accountancy~~

Accounting’s flexibility and dynamism make it an ideal profession for women.

As more women are given the opportunity to have better qualifications (compared to 50 years ago), it is very common to see more of them holding prominent positions in corporations and organisations, be it in business, the public sector, or other industries. In fact, most of the time, the number of women in schools and universities is much higher than that of their male counterparts.

The accounting profession is also experiencing similar global trends. The news could not have come at a better time.

(a) Lady president
As the immediate past president of ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants), Gillian Ball will go down in ACCA’s history as the third woman president in the organisation’s 100-year existence. "This is definitely an interesting trend for us, and good news for the profession," Ball says.

Asked if she would do anything mind-blowing once she resumes the post, Ball smiles and says: "It is an honour and I am excited, but I won’t be doing anything that others have not seen me do as Vice President. ACCA has everything put in place. I would like to continue that by creating more awareness of the organisation. ACCA Malaysia’s statistics are very encouraging. Even more so now that our numbers reveal that 50% of our members globally are women. It goes to show that accounting as a profession has certainly changed in landscape."

(b) Numbers don’t lie
These recent results indicate a positive shift in women’s attitudes towards the profession, which was once often thought of as being very male-dominated.

The Georgia State University School of Accountancy, for instance, reported that the number of women in the accounting major has jumped from 50% five years ago to 65% in 2005. In addition, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants revealed that 57% of new accounting graduates in 2006 are women, and women account for roughly 59% of accountants, up from about 39% in 1983.

In Canada, the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants reported that 27% of its current membership is female, and that number is growing; the gender breakdown is 50/50 among accounting students leaning towards this designation.

(c) Why more women are in accounting
In explaining the rise in female accounting students’ numbers, Ball offers: "I believe that women who do accounting, do so because they understand the prestige and importance of having such a qualification. The rewards of earning the qualification are tremendous. I think women are finally seeing the many career responsibilities that can spring out from an accounting qualification."

"accounting is not just about balance sheets and numbers: it is also about strategy, organisational skills, management and problem solving. And now, more so than before, accounting requires strong social skills as you interact more with clients nowadays. And that is one skill that a woman is naturally good at," Ball continues.

Ball also notes that women students generally do better in the course than their male counterparts. Female students study harder, score higher and often graduate at the top of their class.

(d) Of business, self-confidence and work-life balance
As it is now, more and more females are holding prominent positions in accounting and finance. There are many things one can do with an accounting qualification. It does not necessarily mean you need to work in the accounting department all your life. The qualification is also an interesting way for you to get into business and progress further in the organisation.

"But a strong sense of self – the confidence to know that they can do the job – is also important," Ball advises. She continues to say that "there is no reason for a female graduate to doubt herself. These are the additional skills you need and once you have that, you can achieve many things."

With many accounting firms and other companies pushing for a more work-life balance in recent years, this will only give rise to more lady CFOs and CEOs in future.

This is not discrimination of gender but it just want to share how women nowadays can stand as a men. (^_^)

Teknik membaca yang berkesan

Teknik Membaca PQRST

(a) Preview (Tinjau)
Preview.

(b) Question (Soal)
Question.

(e) Test (Uji)
UJI diri anda setelah anda habis membaca keseluruhan bab.

this is what we call "CLEVER"

There are three engineers and three accountants are traveling by train to a conference. At the station, the three accountants each buy tickets and watch as the three engineers buy only a single ticket. "How are three people going to travel on only one ticket?" asks an accountant. "Watch and you'll see," answers an engineer. They all board the train. The accountants take their respective seats but all three engineers cram into a restroom and close the door behind them.

Shortly after the train has departed, the conductor comes around collecting tickets. He knocks on the restroom door and says, "ticket, please." The door opens just a crack and a single arm emerges with a ticket in hand. The conductor takes it and moves on.

The accountants saw this and agreed it was quite a clever idea. So after the conference, the accountants decide to copy the engineers on the return trip and save some money (being clever with money, and all!) When they get to the station they buy a single ticket for the return trip.To their astonishment, the engineers don't buy a ticket at all. "How are you going to travel without a ticket?" says one perplexed accountant."Watch and you'll see," answers an engineer.

When they board the train the three accountants cram into a restroom and the three engineers cram into another one nearby. The train departs.Shortly afterward, one of the engineers leaves his restroom and walks over to the restroom where the accountants are hiding. He knocks on the door and says, "ticket, please."

As a nutshell, I let you guys make your own conclusion to this story. Have fun read it. (^_^)

Salaries - Where the money counts

Accountancy has long been branded, 'A number crunching job', fairly befitting the image of professionals counting and evaluating the net worth of companies and organizations. It has been a common perception that a career in the field of accountancy is a lucrative one. After all, they do count money everyday, don't they? However, it also depends on which step on the ladder you are in this industry. Jobs in this industry are well diversified, ranging from lower level accounts clerks to executives, auditors, tax agents up to highly ranked corporate directors and officers in the hierarchy of the company's organization. So,how much do these people actually make?
The charts below will give you an up-to-date insight on how much, on average, you will make for the different positions held in the field of accountancy. Salaries range from a level of $28,000 per annum for an accounts clerk to $165,000 per annum for a chief accounting officer, heralded to be one of the most prestigious and highly ranked careers available in the corporate world.
Accountancy Salary Range
Now, lets take a look at the remuneration scheme offered by the 'BIG FOUR' accounting firms, the 4 well established firms in the private sector specializing in providing a range of professional accounting services to companies and organizations.Services range from auditing to consulting and advisory services, and these 4 firms are well sort after by fresh graduates as a stepping stone to a successful career as they are considered the 'cream of the cream' among all accounting firms.

Currently in 2009, the median entry level salary in public accounting was $59,000. Figures can run up to an approximating $70,000 to $85,000 after holding the job for 4 to 5 years. These figures would be higher in major cities. While not widely publicized, annual payouts to top partners in PWC, E&Y, Deloitte and KPMG often run north of $1,000,000. In light of the current recession, the salary range has not been reduced, and the recent ranges are as follows:
PositionsBig 4 Firm
OverallTypical Experience
Entry Level$55,000$50,000 - 70,000
First year
Junior Staff Accountant
$46,000 - 63,000$40,000 - 80,0001-2 years
Senior Staff Accountant
$65,000 - 95,000$70,0003-5 years
Manager
$65,000 - 140,000$85,0005-7 years
Senior Manager$72,000 - 160,000$115,000
7 years plus
Partner
$200,000 - 3,000,000$150,00010 years plus
Accountants can actually earn "the sky is the limit" salaries by making the most out of the expertise and experience. This especially holds true for top position holders in corporate companies and consultants. You do not need to have a cornucopia of skills and talents. All you have to do is to harness your ability to work smart, constantly strive for the best, and most importantly, have passion towards accounting and increasing your own self worth.
